2010 cultural week in Oku.The long awaited Oku annual cultural week of manifestation is around. The day of the start of activities has finally been pronounced today the 03rd of October 2011 by His Excellency Yang Philemon the Prime Minister of Cameroon who is the son of the soil of Oku. This has been confirmed by both the National and home based Presidents of the Oku Cultural and Development Association (OCDA).

The cultural week shall start from the 01st  of November 2011

Day 1
Arrival, formalities, introduction and check into one of our hotel or family home

Day 2
After breakfast, relaxation and visit of the Elak town. Afternoon visit to the Oku Fon’s palace, palace museum, Oku craft paper industry, Oku honey center and Oku Community Radio Station

Day 3
Visit to the Mawes(lake Oku) and get it myth of creation. On our way back, a brief stop at the Tolon water fall. Return from the lake and visit to a native doctor’s home and see the magics of Oku performed by soothsayers

Day 4
The first day of the traditional manifestation of at the Oku Fon’s palace. All sort of traditional manifestation from all attractive and dreadful
jujus (masquerade dancers) exposing their mystical prowess.

Afternoon, have a taste of the famous Oku traditional meal of fufu corn (from maize), jamajam (vegetables) and katikati (chicken)

Day 5
At the morning hours, visit to a famous notable of Oku to hear more oral history and myth story of Oku. In the afternoon we move down to the palace for the second day of manifestation and exhibitions in the Fon’s palace.


Day 6
Third day of total traditional display at the palace. First visit to some shrines at Elak like Nkaa Kimbamboo

Day 7
Own program, last day of manifestation in the palace. Visit to the Yeafon Ardorate to meet the Fulani community. We will be spending the day in the savanna on horse backs moving behind a huge range of cattles.

Day 8
Last visit to the villages, shopping of souvenir at some craft shops.

Preparation, final goodbye and return trip to Limbe and visit of the coastal town, and some beaches

Day 9
Take off for Douala international air and return flight.


 When visiting Oku, it is advisable to always bring along warm clothes, hiking boots, camping gear and medicines against common colds. Safe drinking water is abundant, as Oku produces some of the best water in the world, which is naturally cool due to the climate.

It should be noted that this program will perfectly be enjoyed by someone who will arrive in Oku 3 days before the start of the annual cultural manifestations.
